today i had a pharmaco prac where the aim was to see the effects of atropine, a muscuranic antagonist.

i became the subject becuase no one else in my grp wanted to. The reason? 1.2mg atropine had to be INJECTED subcutaneously. This is by far the most invasive physio/pharm prac that we have. The past few times were pretty easy, with breathing tests or exercise tests.

So the injection gave me a HUGE swelling on my forearm and redness too. The lecturer said it was surprising that alot of the subjects had simiar reactions. We were probably allergic to certain components of the synthetic drug. And it hurt alot during and after the injection. This was worse than the mantoux test that i had.

Anyway the effects of the drug was to increase heart rate, cause pupil dilation, decrease eye accomodation (ie cant see things near) and decrease salivary secretions (which was really uncomfortable cos the mouth became really dry and the after effects persisted after 2 hours, so much that i kept coughing after the experiment cos the throat was v dry). And after a while, i felt a little light headed which went away after a while.

if mcq qns on this prac comes out for the exam, i will noe how to answer it. (:

5 more weeks to exam= 5 more weeks before i fly back to sg. People ask if im excited to go back. im actually feeling ok abt it (apart from the fact that i will be attending my sis's wedding 2 days after). I think all of us have settled down pretty well here such that we no longer feel homesick like we had been at ard this time last year. That's good news i guess.

Being a 2nd year also makes u feel more jaded abt the courses. Everything is getting so routine: lectures, tuts, pracs, hosp, projects, assigment then end of course exam at the end of 8 weeks. And cos the first 2 weeks are still relatively free, i started to cook/make food.

First i was so inspired with jieyu who was making yummy jam pop tarts after the last exam that i wanted to make sth pastry too. So i made quiche, which took abt 2 hrs to make. It was pretty fun to make though.

The left overs of the pastry and the fillings was turned into a pie-like thingy.

Then i had a craving for bak chor mee and also wanted to try out cooking this since my dad always makes this for lunch at home.

Then i recently made cream cheese brownie again (forgot to take pic) a few days back. I wanted to make apple pie/tart but was lazy to make the base. So i thot of buying the base from the supermkt. Turns out that the price of that base is abt the same price of a frozen pie that i can swipe off the shelves. Ok, have to find sth else to make alr. maybe choc lava cake. lol That will be interesting. haha

I think i noe why i can gain weight while im here. But then again, it is not as if i dont eat any of these while im in singapore.Oh wells

I was supposed to update on what i had done during the 4 short precious days of hols after my exam. The first 2 days were crazy cos i went back at 4am and only slept at 5am before running out the next day at 12pm. Well, i had to maximise my time isnt it.

Day 4 (sunday):
Last day to play before the new course starts the next day. Chilling out in the late afternoon at another choc place at darling harbour: guylian cafe. A more atas cafe (nicer deco and even 'nicer' prices) which serves really chocolatey drinks that is really filling and lets u have a sugar high. And what other better things to do after a drink than to go shopping in the city. (:

tyunn, me, oi, beat

chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate :D

Day 3 (saturday):
Lunch at sydney fish market with cheap fresh seafood. Eatting on the grass, picnic-style: bright sun and cold wind. Seriously, cant find such stuff when each of us only paid 14 bucks.

Cold prawns that are boiled in salt water once they are caught. Super fresh la. wahaha.. and super high in cholesterol.

Salmon sashimi

yummy seafood platter for 4. (:

Day 2 (friday):
The usual k singing after every exam. I think it has sorta become a tradition for me ever since jc. all thanks to s11. lol. And since it was fri, i went for bible study at night and after the study ended at 10 plus, the grp spontaneously said that they wanted to go chill at a jazz bar in the city. The hilarious thing is that when we went to the pub, it wasnt a jazz night but an r&b night. So we went off hoping to find another pub playing jazz musci. Walked ard for quite some time and couldnt find one. And at that time it was abt 1plus. Everyone was hungry. So instead of going pubbing, we went to eat korean supper until 3am. Reached home at 4am and only got to bed at 5, one hr before the sun rises.

Here's my bible study grp, lotsa med kids.

Day 1 (thursday, the day of the exam) :
The weather was super bad. Rained the whole day. but not at night. We girls cooked lunch at home (curry!!!) before heading into the city. Within an hour, we had to buy keng yang's bday present (liverpool cap!!), find a card to sign, buy some fruits for the party later in the night. Then we had dinner at hurricane's! yummy full rack of ribs that had to be shared between 2 to 3 girls.

After exam celebration!!

And after dinner, we went over to the guy's unit for a supposedly after exam party. But the real reason was to surprise ky and celebrate his belated bday. His bday was on mon and we were all busy mugging and cramming for our exam on thurs that we didnt celebrate for him. And we indeed surprised him. When most of them left, i stayed behind to play some kinda xmen game but ended up talking with a few of them until 4am. The funny thing was that what chased me home wasnt because i was tired but bcos the guys started talking abt the show 'the exorcist' which really freaked me out. The final straw came when they were finding it on youtube. Then i bolted and walked back to my unit.

I attribute my lack of blogging the past few weeks to the lack of photos (which i still havent gotten around to getting the original copies, hence there are limited photos here) and the lack of time and mood to blog because i was preparing for the end of course exam which was on thurs.

ok let me recap what i had done over the easter hols and then i will move on to what i had been doing the past 3 days post exams.

Easter holidays

1. The highlight was probably going for a road trip to canberra for 2 days and a night.

The new parliament house

no oi to jump with me. and the guys dont want to jump either.

i love this pic alot with its sunset effect. along the sides, climbing up the outside of new parliament house.

sitting in at the old parliament house where members congregate to discuss/debate about issues. (N.B. Old parliament house is sth like a museum where the prime minster office was. The govt office has now moved to the new parliament house, which we didnt have access to)

one of many many rooms at the old parliament house

at questacon, australia's science centre equivalent. in our opinion, singapore science centre is more interesting. ha

visiting the war memorial

And singapore was one of the countries invovled in WW2. And it so happens that the name of our country is situated on top of the fire exit. how apt.

black mountain. wanted to go up the tower if they had student concension but there wasnt so we just took a pic outside.

3 gamblers sitting at the back of the car on the journey back to sydney: 4 hours of continuous daidee and an attempt at playing 3 person bridge. And the games continued until the sun had set and we were making use of the headlights of the car behind by lifting the cards up high. The people behind were probably thinking we were 3 crazy pple.

2. yum cha with the 2nd year med peeps after not gathering together for a long time.

3. max brenner hot chocolate drink and chocolate waffle afternoon outing with the girls. seriously, the chocolate was darn good.

ok abit tired from putting pics and blogging. lol. yes im a lazy bum. post exams update will be up soon. and really, did so much stuff that i was having a sleep debt.

Now im off to watching my videos which i havent touched in a long while.
